Every project begins by understanding the people, place, and possibilities already present.
The studio

Our point of view
We believe the best spaces are not imposed. They emerge from careful observation—of light, climate, landscape, history, and the particular ways people want to live.
Founded in Berlin in 2012, SPAN brings architecture and interiors under one roof. This continuity gives our projects a distinctive coherence, from the shape of a room to the touch of a handle. We work across borders and scales, always with a senior, hands-on team.
Working with SPAN
A good collaboration starts with a clear understanding of what a place needs to do for the people who use it.
We begin with your routines, priorities, and the qualities you want to preserve. Existing drawings, a walk through the site, and a small selection of visual references help turn those conversations into a focused brief.
As the design develops, plans, samples, and models make the decisions tangible. We look at the whole and the detail together: how rooms connect, how light enters, and how a material feels at the point of touch.
Our integrated approach creates continuity between architecture and interiors. The aim is a place whose practical needs and character have been considered together, with clear decisions at each stage.

Founder · Creative Director
Mara leads SPAN’s design direction, balancing architectural clarity with a lasting sense of warmth.
Mara’s role brings the studio’s architectural thinking and interior sensibility together. The emphasis is on keeping a clear idea visible across scales, from the organisation of a building to the smaller details that shape its atmosphere.
Creative direction is also an exercise in listening. Conversations about place, priorities, and everyday use give a project its starting point and help the team return to what matters as the design develops.

Design Director
Elias shapes projects from first sketch through detailing, with a focus on proportion and material honesty.
Elias’s work connects the freedom of an early sketch with the discipline of a resolved detail. Proportion, material relationships, and the experience of moving through a space provide a consistent focus as a project takes shape.
Drawings and samples create a shared language for reviewing a proposal. They make it possible to question a junction, compare alternatives, and understand how an individual decision contributes to the whole.

Interior Architect
Noa creates thoughtful interiors that feel intuitive, tactile, and distinctly personal.
Noa’s focus connects spatial planning with the things people touch and use. Furniture, lighting, storage, and surface finishes are considered together so a room feels intuitive as well as composed.
Material samples help make abstract ideas tangible. Comparing texture, colour, and finish gives clients a clearer way to talk about atmosphere and understand how individual choices belong to the wider interior.

“Good design gives everyday life a little more room to breathe.”— Mara Voss, Founder
